Liquid Waste Management for High-Salinity Environments

Waste Lock® PAM is an advanced co-polymer of acrylate and acrylamide that delivers superior performance in highly ionic conditions, making it the go-to solution for challenging industrial and environmental applications.

Superior Performance with Aggressive Waste Liquids

Unlike standard acrylate homo-polymer superabsorbents, Waste Lock® PAM provides superior absorption capacity even in high-salt environments. With proven absorbency of 55-60 grams per gram in 1% NaCl solutions and 20-25 grams per gram in 2% CaCl₂, this polymer delivers consistent results when others break down.

The product has been freeze-thaw tested to show no liquid release after ten (10) freeze-thaw cycles. The product provides permanent waste solidification.

Waste Lock® PAM - FAQs

What is Waste Lock® PAM and how does it differ from Waste Lock® 770?
Waste Lock® PAM is an advanced co-polymer of acrylate and acrylamide engineered for superior performance in highly ionic and high-salinity waste environments. While Waste Lock® 770 is a sodium polyacrylate homopolymer optimized for low-to-moderate ionic strength waste, PAM’s co-polymer chemistry maintains significantly higher absorption capacity in the presence of dissolved salts, electrolytes, and challenging aqueous chemistries — making it the preferred choice for oil field brines, produced water, and high-chloride industrial waste streams.
Waste Lock® PAM delivers proven absorbency of 55-60 grams per gram of polymer in 1% NaCl solutions, and 20-25 grams per gram in 2% CaCl₂ solutions. This significantly outperforms standard acrylate homopolymers under the same conditions, enabling reliable waste solidification even in aggressive, high-ionic-strength waste streams.
Yes. Waste Lock® PAM is widely used for oil and gas drilling waste management. It handles water-based drill cuttings, high-chloride produced water, and blended brine/hydrocarbon waste streams effectively. For purely hydrocarbon-based wastes (oils, solvents), OrganoLock® N-65 or TOTALSORB® are recommended instead; PAM is optimized for the aqueous fraction of mixed waste streams.

Yes. Waste Lock® PAM enables treated waste to pass the EPA Paint Filter Test (Method 9095). Its rapid absorption profile delivers effective solidification within minutes of application, supporting fast batch processing and efficient on-site waste management.

Waste Lock® PAM is available in three granulation options: Small (200-800 µm), Medium (1-2 mm), and Large (2-4 mm). Smaller particles absorb more rapidly; larger particles are easier to apply in bulk operations. Contact our technical team for guidance on which particle size best suits your application method and waste stream characteristics.
Waste Lock® PAM provides excellent absorption of aqueous wastes with pH greater than 4 or pH greater than 10, offering broad versatility across acidic, neutral, and alkaline waste streams. For highly acidic wastes below pH 4, pH adjustment (neutralization) is recommended prior to application. Contact M² Polymer Technologies for technical guidance on treating extreme pH waste streams.
