Oil Absorbent Granules

TOTALSORB® is a universal granular material that absorbs large quantities of water, oil and organic wastes such as gasoline, diesel fuel and chlorinated hydrocarbons.  Our oil absorbent powder & granules are also effective on strong acids and alkaline wastes.

This absorbent material is excellent for store spill response applications and for automotive crash response.

Product Advantages

TOTALSORB® oil absorbent powder & granules are effective with large quantities of water, oil and organic wastes.  These substances include gasoline, diesel fuel and chlorinated hydrocarbons, and on strong acids and alkaline wastes. Our oil spill clean up absorbents are also helpful in a variety of spill response applications. For messes large and small, our product help you respond quickly and efficiently.

TOTALSORB® Oil Absorbent Attributes:

  • Significantly more absorbent than clays and other mineral absorbents. You need only 2.5 pounds to absorb a gallon of liquid.
  • Non-Biodegradable material (40 CFR 264.314 (e)(ii)), meeting the special requirements for disposal of bulk and containerized liquids
  • When Used Properly, Wastes Will Pass Paint Filter Test (EPA 9095).

Packaging:

Available in bulk supersacks and 4 cu. foot bags (27-30 lbs each).

Absorbency Performance:

Water3 -4 X(± 2.5 lbs to absorb 1 gallon)
USP Mineral Oil2.5 – 3.5 X(± 2.5 lbs to absorb 1 gallon)
10W30 Motor Oil2.5 – 3.5 X(± 2.5 lbs to absorb 1 gallon)

* Absorbency Factor is the amount of absorbent required to absorb one pound of liquid.

Oil Absorbent Granules - FAQs

What are Oil Absorbent Granules and what are they used for?
M² Polymer Technologies’ Oil Absorbent Granules are mineral-based granular adsorbents formulated for the absorption of petroleum products, hydrocarbons, oils, fuels, and non-aqueous industrial liquids. Common applications include industrial and shop floor spill cleanup, automotive maintenance, fuel spill response, machine shop floor maintenance, and routine hydrocarbon spill containment in industrial facilities.
The core Waste Lock® product line uses cross-linked sodium polyacrylate chemistry optimized for aqueous (water-based) waste streams — these products repel oils and non-polar liquids. Oil Absorbent Granules use mineral-based chemistry formulated to adsorb hydrocarbons and petroleum products. For mixed-waste spills containing both water and hydrocarbons, TOTALSORB® is recommended, as it is specifically designed to absorb both types of liquids simultaneously.
Yes. Oil Absorbent Granules can be applied outdoors to contain and clean up petroleum product spills — including diesel, gasoline, transformer oil, and motor oil — on paved and unpaved surfaces. Used granules containing absorbed hydrocarbons must be collected and managed as contaminated waste per applicable federal, state, and local regulations. For large-scale environmental remediation involving oil-contaminated soil or groundwater, OrganoLock® N-65 may be the more appropriate solution; contact us to discuss your project.
Oil Absorbent Granules are a mineral-based adsorbent suited for routine maintenance spill cleanup and standard hydrocarbon spill response. OrganoLock® N-65 is a proprietary polymer engineered for industrial-scale organic and hydrocarbon waste stabilization with permanent polymer encapsulation — including for regulated waste streams that must meet disposal requirements. For high-volume or regulated hydrocarbon waste applications, OrganoLock® N-65 provides superior performance and compliance support.
Oil Absorbent Granules are a standard industrial mineral adsorbent with a straightforward safety profile. Standard industrial hygiene practices apply — avoid prolonged inhalation of dust during application. A Safety Data Sheet is available in the Resources section of our website. Post-use, granules containing absorbed hydrocarbons must be handled as petroleum-contaminated waste per applicable regulations.
Coverage and application rates depend on the size of the spill, the surface type, and the viscosity of the hydrocarbon. Granules should be applied liberally over the spill, allowed to absorb for several minutes, and then swept up for disposal. Contact M² Polymer Technologies for specific guidance on application rates for your typical spill scenarios, or to request a product sample.
